School Committee · Meeting of August 11, 2026

Southbridge School Committee learned the state approved the district's move to Phase 3 of its receivership exit plan and reorganized its subcommittees. Superintendent William Metzger told members Commissioner Martinez accepted the Phase 3 Capacity Building Plan proposal "without comment, without edit" after meetings with Town Council, the town manager and DESE officials. Business Manager Matt Rabideau reported the district secured roughly half a million dollars through PRISM II and III literacy grants but went over budget on extended-school-year special education and utilities this summer.

The committee voted unanimously to eliminate its Local Governance subcommittee, with Vice Chair Carla Delacruz Davila saying "we already do it," and created a Curriculum subcommittee chaired by Martena Shea, who also continues chairing Policy. Maria Torres was elected Finance Subcommittee chair. The first day of school for grades 1-12 is August 24.
