Southbridge school officials reported 2026 MCAS gains even as the district stayed in the state's underperforming category. Superintendent William Metzger told the School Committee the district's annual progress score rose from 43 percent to 65 percent and the high school's accountability point share more than doubled, from 19 percent to 46 percent, aided by an early college partnership with Quinsigamond Community College. He said the graduation rate climbed 14 points in a year and chronic absenteeism fell eight to nine points at both levels, but cautioned "our overall designation is underperforming, I want to be clear.
Has not changed." About 900 students received an ELA or math score, with 16 percent meeting or exceeding expectations in ELA and 14.8 percent in math, both below the state average. The committee also heard from student representative Mackenzie Parker and Eastford Road School Principal Galino before adjourning at 7:21 p.m.
