SOUTHBRIDGE — The Southbridge School Committee's Policy Subcommittee adopted four updated building security, grounds-access, vandalism and camera policies at its October 13 meeting. Vice Chair Carla Delacruz Davila and member Martena Shea took part alongside Superintendent William Metzger and a Massachusetts Association of School Committees consultant identified as Tracy, who walked the panel through model policy language. The new grounds-access policy opens school tracks to the public outside school hours and allows limited daytime use when students aren't using them.

Officials said locking and unlocking McMahon Field's gate can cost the district up to eight hours of contractual pay daily, with ownership of the field still unresolved after "bouncing back" between the town and schools for years. The camera policy puts video access control with the district rather than automatically with police. All four policy votes passed unanimously by voice vote.

The subcommittee also scheduled a student handbook review for November 10 and pushed its next policy session to December 15 at 5:30 p.m.
