Southbridge subcommittee clears Rios playground bid, Town Hall tower study. The Planning and Development Subcommittee voted unanimously to send the Marcos Rios Playground equipment purchase, backed by a $140,000 park grant, to the full town council once bids were evaluated. Members also recommended forming a new building committee to address a Town Hall tower repair estimated near $2 million and a feasibility study pricing a full campus renovation at $35 million.
"I thought it was close to the two, but that's why we have to do the study to get a firm number," the town manager said. A separate item, a $7,000 state tree-planting grant with a $1,750 local match, was also forwarded, with volunteers noting a prior $1 million federal forestry grant had been rescinded. All votes passed without recorded opposition, including a 3-0 approval of the August 13 minutes.
