Select Board 2026-09-15 Part 3 · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Southbridge panel backs forming a school building committee as facilities strain mounts. The Town Council's Joint Education and Human Services Subcommittee voted to recommend the committee under the state's Designer Selection Law, after officials described aging windows, a four-person facilities team and what one official called "destined to have a major problem" conditions in the elementary schools. Councilor Lazo, who served on the prior middle-high school building committee, urged members to "immediately put the building committee together and get it rolling," noting that project drew 87 percent state funding.

The subcommittee also recommended reappointing Andrew St. George and David LaRochelle to the Recreation Committee through June 30, 2029, and approved a $100 transfer to cover new tires for two curbside collection vehicles. Officials said a school funding application to the Massachusetts School Building Authority could be due by early April.
