Board of Health · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Southbridge clears kratom from every store shelf, rejects its own meeting minutes. Health inspector Chris told the Board of Health that all seven retailers found selling kratom complied after a September 2 compliance check, with periodic follow-up inspections planned. The board also voted unanimously to reject its draft July minutes, a verbatim transcript the town's attorney said failed to attribute votes to individual members as state law requires.
Members previewed Monday's Town Council vote on joining a regional opioid and public health coalition led by Webster, learned a town-funded opioid-abatement program has been frozen amid a compliance review, and debated creating the town's first curbside trash fee abatement policy, with the $150 annual fee and roughly 23 August opt-outs cited as the board agreed to revisit the issue in December.
